DOCTORAL COLLOQUIUM MAY 2, 2010: Call for Applications ( download PDF version of this call here)
The goals of the Ph.D. Colloquium of the ISCRAM 2010 conference are three-fold:
Accomplishment of these goals is supported through a one-day program taking place immediately prior to the main ISCRAM conference. The colloquium is targeted at PhD students seeking careers as researchers in academic settings. The colloquium will consist of discussions, presentations and shared activities centred on the following topics: the Ph.D. process, building and utilizing your research community, advancing your career, opportunities for publishing your work and funding your future research.
Up to twelve students will be accepted for the colloquium. They will be joined by faculty mentors and senior doctoral students from the USA and Europe who are actively involved in the ISCRAM community.
Students accepted for the colloquium are also eligible to present their work during a poster session, to be held both at the end of the doctoral colloquium and during the main ISCRAM conference itself. The poster template will be available later. This will offer students the valuable opportunity to receive feedback and perspectives on their research from recognized experts in the field and other senior doctoral students.
Students who submit papers to the ISCRAM conference itself (and who are named as first author) will be eligible for the Mike Meleshkin Award for best PhD Student paper.
Students presenting their work during the conference will also be assigned a ëmentorí who will give feedback to the student after their presentation on content, further work, presentation style, etc.
Eligibility
Doctoral students who, at the time of the colloquium, have not yet defended their dissertation are eligible to apply.
Student participants must register for the main conference (a student rate is available).
Logistics
The colloquium will be held on the 2nd May 2010, immediately prior to the ISCRAM main conference, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Seattle, USA. A website will be available where accepted students can view the research interests of other participants, download the poster template and raise issues that they would like to discuss during the Colloquium, etc.
